Wash Your Car Like a Professional
Washing your car is one of the most important maintenance tasks that will keep your car in excellent condition. Not only is it a time to bond with your car and catch and nicks or dings, but it’s also a way to protect your car’s paint from damage, which can build up over time and damage the vehicle itself, especially given the weather we face here in Denver. Here are a few tips on how to wash your car the way professionals do it.
There are many different types of cleaners on the market, and it can be complicated to figure out what you need specifically. Read the labels carefully and choose the products that are compatible with your car materials. For example, cleaners for chrome can damage an aluminum wheel. While you’re at it, make sure you have different microfiber cloths for each area of the vehicle: body, wheels, and windows.
Rinse the car first to get rid of any loose debris and dirt—you can get into the details when you’re washing. Use non-abrasive cloths and soap that’s meant for cars—whatever you do, don’t use dish soap, as it can damage the paint.
It’s not just to make the car look shiny. Wax is an important part of the process, as it can help prevent fading due to UV light and also prevent things from sticking to the surface. Carnauba wax and polymer wax will achieve similar results.
Windows and Wheels
Each of these areas needs to be cleaned separately from the rest of the car. Use car window cleaner and a wheel cleaner that’s made for your wheel material. If in doubt, go with one for aluminum wheels.
